Ring-shaped dielectric antenna
Abstract
Results are presented of theoretical and experimental investigations on a novel, ring-shaped dielectric antenna design. A possible realization of this design consists of a rectangular cross section ring with a waveguide-dielectric radiator serving as a primary source. It is found that the optimum dielectric ring for maximum antenna gain enters the second Fresnel zone. Both radiation theory and experimental results are given for the case of an X-band antenna of this type, and it is concluded that this configuration yields an efficient directional radiator of simple and inexpensive construction.
