Performance of a TDMA burst modem through a dual nonlinear satellite channel
Abstract
This paper describes the SBS TDMA burst modem and presents bit error rate performance data measured over linear (IF back-to-back) and actual and simulated satellite channels. The simulated channel is briefly described and includes two TWTA's operated at or near saturation. The importance of tailoring the burst modem design to the channel nonlinearities is demonstrated. Plots of the signal spectrum are given to show the effects of the nonlinearities.
