Long term performance of VLG-11 masers
Abstract
The paper reports on the performance of the VLG-11 masers, including NRL owned VLG-11, which is the predecessor of the VLG-11 series. Electronic and ion pump problems have been observed, although the electronic problems should decrease with increasing production experience. A getter pump has been developed, which has high hydrogen capacity while requiring no high voltage power. A small ion pump would still be required to pump residual gases, but should have a long life due to the elimination of flaking problems associated with pumping hydrogen.
