Spatial-temporal focusing of charged particles in fields with rotational symmetry
Abstract
A method is developed for the analysis of spatial-temporal focusing of thin packets of charged particles in rotationally symmetric electrostatic fields. It is shown that such focusing can be achieved if the field is an electron mirror in relation to the particles. The spatial and temporal characteristics of the system are studied in the first approximation, and second-order aberrations are determined.
