Electric field distribution in a nonself-sustained discharge, sustained by an electron beam in a gas mixture of CO2, N2, He, and O2
Abstract
The present study examines the influence of oxygen additions in CO2-N2-He laser mixtures on the spatial distribution of the electric field in the main column of the discharge, sustained by an electron beam. Calculations are performed of the field profile for discharge parameters characteristic of CO2 discharge lasers. Conditions are determined under which oxygen, at fractions of a percent of the total mixture content, can significantly improve the uniformity of the electric field. Rates of dissociative and three-body attachment of electrons to oxygen in mixtures of CO2-N2-He-O2 are calculated.
