Variational method for solving problems with free streamlines
Abstract
A variational method is developed for calculating symmetric cavitation flows of an ideal incompressible fluid. The method is based on the equivalence of the classic problem of flow with free boundaries and the variational problem of the minimum of the attached-mass functional. Numerical results are given for cavitation flows past bodies with various nose and tail shapes.
