System calibration strategies for spaceborne synthetic aperture radar
Abstract
Using SEASAT SAR data of land and ocean areas from both MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates and the German Space Operations Center, this report investigates several aspects of system calibration by examining systematic properties of the data for a variety of scenes and environmental conditions. By exploiting a variety of targets in the form of point sources and homogeneous land and ocean scenes, a number of fundamental system descriptors may be extracted from the data themselves.
