National interim energy-consumption survey: Exploring the variability in energy consumption
Abstract
The variation in total energy consumption and consumption by end use are described. The report concentrates on regression models for describing the variability in natural gas and electricity consumption for households living in single family detached houses. Sample data and the subsets used in the analyses are described. A theoretical model for describing a household's energy consumption is presented. Graphical summaries of the data which serve to explain the specific models fit to the data are also presented. The empirical models fit to the data, and the method of fitting, are discussed. Results, speculation on interpretation of the model coefficients, and potential uses of the model are summarized.
