Custom high-reliability radiation-hard CMOS-LSI circuit design
Abstract
A custom CMOS-LSI design capability to provide high reliability radiation hardened circuits depends on (1) proven design practices to enhance reliability; (2) use of well characterized cells and logic modules; (3) computer-aided design tools to reduce design time and errors and to standardize design definition; and (4) close working relationships with the system designer and technology fabrication personnel. Tradeoffs are made during the design between circuit complexity/performance and technology/producibility for high reliability and radiation hardened designs to result. A radiation hardened bulk CMOS technology fabrication line developed and maintained for production of prototype and small production volume parts is described.
