The shape of irregularity spectrum of the high-latitude ionosphere in the direction of the geomagnetic field
Abstract
Radio occultation employing satellite transmissions was used to measure the shape of the irregularity spectrum of electron density in the polar ionosphere along the direction of the geomagnetic field, H. It is shown that the spectral density has a characteristic cutoff scale of 5-15 km along H. In the plane orthogonal to H, turbulence is isotropic and spectral density decreases according to the power law for measured perpendicular scales of 100 m to 1 km.
