Production and decay of the χ in hadronic interactions
Abstract
We argue that the decay mode χ-->ψγπ0 should be at least 700 times more important than χ-->ψ3π, and thus the upper limit on the branching fraction for χ-->ψ3π is ~0.1%. Assuming that the decay χ-->ψγπ0 explains interesting features of the ψγ invariant-mass spectrum observed recently in the high-energy inclusive hadronic reaction πp-->ψγX, we deduce a rough estimate of the branching ratio Γ(χ-->ψγπ0)Γ(χ-->all)~=10%. This appears to be particularly large for a Zweig-rule-forbidden process.
