Electrical measurements of piezoelectric parameters of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVF2)
Abstract
Electromechanical models which are electrical analogs for the PVF2 film are presented, since they are simpler to use and also display both the mechanical and electrical properties of the film. An all electrical measurement method for measurement of the piezoelectric parameters of PVF2 is described and then extended to measure the mechanical parameters of PVF2 completely by electrical means. This measurement technique was used to study the behavior of the parameters of the film under variations of temperature and applied field strength. Carefully controlled conditions were set up and the amount of polarization which occurs during the process was recorded. The new measurement technique was then used to evaluate by electrical means the electromechanical properties of devices made from PVF2.
