Magnetic anomalies and new global tectonics
Abstract
The basic structural characteristics of the magnetic anomalies of the oceans and transition zones are examined with particular reference to the relationship between anomaly parameters and magnetic properties of the sea-floor rocks. Current models for the formation of the oceanic magnetically active layer and its changes are examined. Consideration is also given to techniques used for the interpretation of magnetic sea mapping data. Paleotectonic reconstructions of continent location are presented for the Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras.
