The mean relaxation time of isolated, equal-mass N-body systems with small N.
Abstract
The time-scale of relaxation in isolated, equal-mass N-body systems with small N is studied experimentally using three 32-body calculations sampled at five times, three early in the evolution and two somewhat later. The results are consistent with predictions based on classical two-body encounter theory after allowance is made for the variations in density and rms velocity through the systems.
