Study on anomalous effects in CO2-laser-created plasma
Abstract
Experimental results are presented on the anomalous effects associated with the interaction of CO2-laser radiation with a planar magnesium target at power densities of 5 x 10 to the 10th to 10 to the 11th W/sq cm. Particular consideration is given to the following phenomena: reflectivity decrease with increase in laser-radiation intensity, second harmonic generation; non-Maxwellian spectrum of X-ray radiation and hard X-ray generation in the plasma, anisotropy of ions emitted from the plasma, fast-ion generation, and spontaneous magnetic-field generation.
