Ln(Fe 3+M2+)O 4 compounds with layer structure [ Ln : Y, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu, M : Mg, Mn, Co, Cu, and Zn]
Abstract
A series of new compounds Ln(Fe 3+M2+)O 4 [ Ln : Y, Er, Tm, Yb, and Lu, M : Mg, Mn, Co, Cu, and Zn] were successfully synthesized and their lattice constants were determined. These compounds have the same crystal structure as YbFe 2O 4 and Fe 3+ and M 2+ are both surrounded by five oxygen ions forming a trigonal bipyramid. The synthetic conditions are presented. They are strongly dependent upon the constituent cations of the compound.
