Distribution of velocities in the picture of scintillations and jet structure of the solar wind.
Abstract
A dispersion analysis of interplanetary scintillation is developed by studying the relationship between the dispersion relation of the scintillation drift rate and the velocity distribution in the solar wind. The case of an arbitrary solar-wind velocity distribution is considered. Experimental data on the scintillation of the radio sources 3C 48 and 3C 144 are analyzed, and some characteristics of the derived solar-wind velocity distributions are discussed. It is suggested that a model entailing a jet structure in the solar wind may explain the results obtained.
