Rossby vortex as a model for Jupiter's Great Red Spot.
Abstract
A theoretical model is developed for Jupiter's Red Spot under the assumption that there is slight exchange of material between the Red Spot and the surrounding flow. The model describes a planetary Rossby vortex at a boundary of a two-stream flow with a tangential discontinuity. Results of calculations are presented, and possible generalizations of the model are discussed.
