Optimum feed locus for beam scanning in the symmetry plane of offset Cassegrain antennas - Two-dimensional case
Abstract
The optimum feed position for offset Cassegrain antennas is found analytically in terms of the reflector parameters for a priori specified beam directions and 2-dimensional beam scanning in the plane of symmetry. First, the locus of feed positions that yields a chosen beam direction is determined and second, the optimum position along this locus is found by minimizing the phase error with respect to the beam direction. Results are verified using computer analysis of the far-field patterns. The method can be extended to other dual reflector antennas and to general beam scanning in any direction.
