On the Polarization of the Coronal Emission Line Fe XIV-530.3 NM
Abstract
An indirect method for determining the polarization of a green coronal emission line, using an extra-eclipse coronograph, is presented. The results show isophotes of the green coronal line, degree of polarization, and mean values of degrees of polarization at given heights. Although agreement is seen with theoretical predictions, it is concluded that this method is insufficiently accurate. Consequently, photoelectric polarimetry with accuracies an order of magnitude higher are being called for.
