Pulsar magnetospheres: some fundamental considerations.
Abstract
The theory of the pulsar magnetosphere under quasi-static conditions is presented in a coordinate-free vector form making evident the nature of the relativistic governing equations as extensions of the classical nonrelativistic static equations. From the field equations in quasi-static form, equations for the electromagnetic potentials are obtained under static and quasi-static conditions, along with force-free integrals of plasma motion in the cylindrical and axisymmetric cases. These equations may then be used to solve the problem of the pulsar magnetosphere.
