Pulsar magnetospheres: some fundamental considerations.
Abstract
The theory of the pulsar magnetosphere under quasistatic conditions is presented in a coordinatefree vector form making evident the nature of the relativistic governing equations as extensions of the classical nonrelativistic static equations. From the field equations in quasistatic form, equations for the electromagnetic potentials are obtained under static and quasistatic conditions, along with forcefree integrals of plasma motion in the cylindrical and axisymmetric cases. These equations may then be used to solve the problem of the pulsar magnetosphere.
