Stark modulation of CO2 laser in a Lorentz broadened molecular gas
Abstract
The Stark modulation of a CO2 laser line in a Lorentz-broadened gas is quantitatively investigated and some features (like the change of modulation sign with pressure) are explained. Considering symmetrical top molecules, a simple formula is derived for the Stark modulation which describes its dependence on molecular parameters, gas pressure and electric field, in agreement with the experiment.
