The galactic center and the origin of cosmic rays
Abstract
The present study examines a model of the origin of galactic cosmic rays, in which the majority of energetic particles observed in the Galaxy are accelerated during periods of galactic nuclear activity repeating at intervals of 10 million to 100 million years. In each of the active periods, the total energy of accelerated cosmic rays should be 10 to the 55th to 10 to the 56th erg. The most characteristic features of this model are examined, and it is concluded that the model does not contradict existing observational data.
