Drag on a droplet in translating fluctuating flow
Abstract
The analysis of Illingworth (1963) for a low Reynolds number flow past a rigid sphere is generalized to include fluid spheres. Flow in three regions is analyzed. Flow interior is coupled at the droplet radius to the inner flow of the exterior fluid which, in turn, is matched to the outer flow. Solutions for the oscillating drag component are presented for a dimensionless frequency much less than unity, much greater than 1/R, and of order unity.
