Multiplicity and absolute magnitudes of Wolf-rayet stars in the LargeMagellanic Cloud.
Abstract
The results of observations of Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars in the V, U, B, and R bands are presented. The influence of continuum compared with observations in the V band and the visual multiplicity of all WR stars in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) is taken as an indication of the binarity of WC stars, on the order of 33 percent. The observed absolute magnitudes of WR stars in the LMC differed from previously observed magnitudes (Smith, 1968), particularly for WNL stars around 30 Dor, which were 1.2 magnitudes brighter than stars away from the 30 Dor nebula. All WC stars observed were associated with gaseous nebula, and the ratio of WC to WN stars was found to be consistent with the galactic ratio.
