A fine analysis of the extreme helium-rich star HD 168476.
Abstract
An analysis of the extremely hydrogen-deficient and helium-rich star, HD 168476 is performed using a grid of constant flux continuum local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) model atmospheres with varying atmospheric parameters, carbon and helium abundances and microturbulent velocity. Helium, nitrogen and carbon are found to be overabundant with respect to normal B stars, with oxygen underabundance and an upper limit to the hydrogen abundance of less than, or equal to 0.00005. With certain assumptions about the star's evolutionary status, the mass is found to be 0.7 solar masses, a luminosity of 4.1 solar luminosities, and a radius of 19 solar radii.
