Planning for a Canadian direct broadcasting satellite system
Abstract
The results of Canadian experiments with a direct broadcasting satellite (DBS) and the effect of these results on plans for a DBS system for Canada are presented. Characteristics of the ANIK-B satellite, (the one used in the experiments) are given, as are data on dB relative to static threshold. Specifications for the low-cost receiving terminals used are also included. Pictures transmitted by satellite were found to be highly acceptable to viewers. It is noted, however, that technical factors must be considered alongside sociodemographic and economic ones in designing a DBS system for the country.
