Development of radar planetary studies in the Soviet Union
Abstract
Radar studies of Venus, Mars, Mercury, and Jupiter, carried out in the Soviet Union are described. Observation methods and improvements in their accuracy are examined. Particular attention is given to the refinement of the astronomical unit, the refinement of the astronomical constants, and the study of the Venus rotation elements, topography, and atmosphere. The results obtained are compared with those obtained in the United States and England.
