Optical fibre communication
Abstract
Consideration is given to the types and transmission properties of optical fibers, and pertinent topics in light propagation theory such as power distribution, attenuation, pulse distortion, and propagation modes. Also discussed are experimental techniques for fiber characterization, glass fiber materials and production techniques, and the variety of electro-optical light sources used for transmission to unity-gain and avalanche photodetectors. Subsequent chapters consider optical fiber cables, connecting and splicing techniques, circuit design, the fabrication of integrated optics, and future trends in the design and application of integrated optics.
