Target tracking and target detection in TV- and FLIR-imagery
Abstract
Procedures for the detection of moving or stationary objects in single images and in image sequences and taken from a moving or stationary sensor are described. The objects are primarily located on the ground in their natural environment so that simple detection procedures cannot be applied. For those situations a tracking system was designed, simulated on a digital computer, and tested with an equipment for real time applications. The scale is determined separately and normalized by the location of object parts. The basic shortcomings of a correlation tracker system were eliminated in a system where in addition to the evaluation of the correlation function objects in the foreground or background are detected based on features like contrast, image differences, contour lines, shape, and relative speed of the objects.
