One-dimensional computer simulation of the variable wiggler free-electron laser
Abstract
The paper deals with a procedure used to design a high pulsed power free-electron laser amplifier, incorporating variable-parameter wiggler magnets. The design and stability of the laser are evaluated, and laser operation is predicted from a one-dimensional computer simulation. The results indicate that careful design and high current densities should make it possible to trap high percentages of the input electron beam to achieve high conversion efficiencies.
