Overview of digital satellite communication networks
Abstract
The paper describes major digital networks that use SCPC/FDMA and TDMA techniques that have been implemented or are in the process of being implemented. These include the following networks: (1) SPADE, (2) Telesat Thin Route, (3) Telesat TDMA, (4) Intelsat TDMA, (5) SBS, (6) Advanced Westar SS/TDMA, (7) American Satellite TDMA, (8) Eutelsat, and (9) Telecom. In each case, a brief description of the network is given along with the kind of service offered. Characteristics of the satellite and transmission techniques used are also outlined.
