Compact numerical method for the simulation of separated viscous flow, stationary or not. Application
Abstract
A Hermitian method is proposed to solve unsteady Navier-Stokes equations. The problem of the onset of secondary vortices in the flow around a circular cyclinder which takes off suddenly is studied and the theoretical results are compared with experimental flow visualizations. The flow generated by the transversal oscillation of an elliptic cylinder is analyzed in detail from transient period to permanent periodic regime. Some characteristic properties of the phenomenon are evidenced.
