The projectile of the Lappajärvi impact crater.
Abstract
The purpose of the paper is to determine the origin of the projectile that resulted in the Lappajarvi impact crater. Two impact melt samples were analyzed and found to have highly enriched siderophilic elements such as Ir, Re, and Os, indicating the presence of a meteoric component. Attention is given to homogeneity of the melt and basement correction, nonvolatile meteorite elements, and volatile elements. Results suggest the Lappajarvian meteorite to be a chondritic meteorite.
