Comparison of charge loss in CCDs operated in 2-phase and 4-phase modes
Abstract
Two modes of operation are compared by operating the same devices in both the 4-phase and 2-phase mode. It is shown that given sufficiently large signals charges the signal degradation may in either case be composed of a fixed charge loss and a charge-proportional loss. It is found that for the 2-phase mode of operation the fixed loss is always larger than for the 4-phase mode. Finally, the results are qualitatively discussed.
