Location of adsorbed atoms by surface channeling
Abstract
The positions of oxygen and carbon adsorbed on a (101) Ni surface are determined in a surface channeling experiment with 1.2 MeV deuterons at grazing incidence. For identification the nuclear reactions 16O(d, p) 17O and 12C(d, p) 13C are used. Yield maxima with beam direction along [101¯] and minima along [010] are found for both atom species. This is consistent with a “long bridge” position at the (101) Ni surface.
