A layered silicon submillimeter Fabry-Perot interferometer Application in a submillimeter laser optically pumped by a CO2 laser
Abstract
A theoretical and experimental examination of the properties of a two layer silicon FIR Fabry-Perot interferometer operating at submillimeter frequencies and pumped by a CO2 laser is presented. Limitations on the efficiency of optical pumping are considered, and optimization techniques are defined. Experimental results from the coupling of the lasing cavities by means of the interferometer are presented, particularly for precise measurements of FIR wavelengths and in the determination of small absorption coefficients. Attention is given to the case of the CH2F2 laser and the FIR transitions of the CH2F2 molecule.
