Mineralogy and structure of the Egvekinot meteorite.
Abstract
Results of macroscopic and microscopic studies of a fragment of the Egvekinot meteorite, a fine-structured octahedrite, are reported. In addition, results of a microprobe analysis of its minerals are presented; these include kamacite, taenite, schreibersite, sphalerite, and lead telluride (possibly altaite), discovered for the first time in a meteorite. The rate of cooling of the meteorite was found to be approximately 1 C/1-million years.
