The design of tubular-conductor filters for spaceflight
Abstract
It is noted that because of certain communications systems requirements, satellite repeaters require special waveguide filters which benefit from the greater Q-factors attainable with tubular conductor technology. Attention is given to the fact that in order to meet these requirements, such as keeping filter weight low, carbon filter epoxy technology is being employed to an increasing degree. The design and realization of three repeater tubular conductor filters (input, channel filter, and output multiplexer) are described, as well as the characteristics of carbon fiber reinforced plastics.
