Complex turbulent flows and processes of heat and mass transfer
Abstract
The discussion focuses on turbulent flows produced by friction against smooth and rough surfaces and complicated by the effects of density stratification, polymer additions, external turbulence, and other factors. A phenomenological theory of turbulent flow is developed on the basis of a systematic analysis and generalization of a large body of experimental data. Relationships valid for the entire class of flows considered are derived which provide a way to determine the mean and peak values of flow characteristics and calculate heat and mass transfer. The applied problems of complex turbulent flow calculation and modeling are also discussed.
