Abundance Ratios of 4He++/3He++ in the Solar Wind
Abstract
The ion composition experiment aboard the Isee 3 spacecraft has been used to measure the 4He++/3He++ ratio in the solar wind. Using 4334 observations made between August 18 and November 24, 1978, and March 24 and August 25, 1979, the average ratio 4He++/3He++ is found to be 2.1+/-0.2×103, in agreement with previous foil measurements. Individual observations vary widely from the average and the low 4He++/3He++ ratios occur at times of low 4He++ flux.
