Calibration and image processing software for the Space Telescope Faint Object Camera.
Abstract
Software is being written for ESA in order to process calibration data and perform routine corrections on images from the Space Telescope Faint Object Camera. A brief description is given of the image photon counting detector to be used with this camera, and the main factors affecting image quality such as photometric nonlinearity and geometric distortion which need to be calibrated are identified. Methods to be used for calibrating the detector and also the complete camera are described. An explanation is given of the methods proposed for analyzing calibration data, and the image processing software techniques developed for this task and for routine image correction are described.
