The physical conditions in the emission regions of T Tauri-type stars
Abstract
The theoretical and observational Balmer decrements of T Tauri-type stars are compared, showing that emission of pure chromospheric origin is not typical for most of these stars. As a component, however, this emission is present in the spectra of one out of three of the stars. The star shells are responsible for most of the radiation in the hydrogen lines. The origin of the UV emission of T Tauri stars is discussed, using the DF Tau star as an example. Possible mechanisms of the activity of T Tauri stars are examined.
