The effect of conditions of developing on the recording threshold of faint stars on the sky background
Abstract
It is shown that it is possible to considerably increase the recording threshold of faint stars, determined by sky brightness, by varying the photographic developing conditions. Further, it is found that the background density corresponding to the recording threshold also depends on the developing conditions. It is sometimes possible to control the developing conditions in such a way that the limiting stellar magnitude, achieved at a given time exposure and sky brightness, remains the same while the background density decreases considerably
