Engineering a CW YAG laser
Abstract
The engineering of a compact 2W Nd-YAG CW laser, which is capable of 2 W output at 1.06 microns is described. A modular construction technique to support the arc lamp and laser rod in demountable coding jackets has been adopted, which does not obstruct any part of the full aperture of the laser rod along the optic axis. The performance of a tungsten halogen lamped pumped CW YAG laser and a krypton arc lamp pumped CW YAG laser is presented. Threshold for lasing is measured to be 1050 W with a 1.5% output coupling and 1380 W with a 3.5% output coupling with the krypton arc pump.
