Gain studies of electron beam excited XeF laser mixtures
Abstract
Three different techniques for measuring small-signal gain are evaluated by applying them to an XeF laser operating on both the B yields X transition at 351 nm and the C yields A transition at 488 nm. These measurements revealed differences in gain and pressure dependence for electron beam pumped Ar/Xe/NF3 and Ne/Xe/NF3 mixtures. The gain data are compared to the observed laser output in order to study the limitations of such gain measurements.
