Variations of ion composition and electron density accompanying solar flares.
Abstract
A sudden increase in solar ionizing radiation intensity and changes in the spectral structure of XUV radiation, accompanying a solar flare, produce substantial changes in ionospheric photochemical processes. In the present paper, an attempt is made to determine the changes in ion composition from an analysis of aeronomic processes, using Donnelly's (1976) ionospheric model of flare radiation. Under the assumption of quasi-stationarity, the ion and electron densities at heights between 70 and 300 km are calculated for several typical flare durations.
