Mode excitation in parabolic index fibres by Gaussian beams
Abstract
The excitation of LP(epsilon, mu)modes in fibers with a parabolic index profile by a Gaussian TEM(00)beam is analyzed. The expression for the power coupling coefficient is written as a function of four normalized parameters which depend upon the properties of the beam, the launching conditions and the fiber parameters. The range of validity of this expression with respect to these four parameters and the mode numbers epsilon, mu is given. The problem of optimal excitation of a particular LP(epsilon, mu)mode is discussed.
