Tunable spatial filtering with a Fabry-Perot etalon
Abstract
The use of Fabry-Perot etalon as an image plane angular filter is investigated theoretically and experimentally. It is shown that, when placed in the image plane of an optical system, the etalon behaves as a filter for the angular frequencies of the input. The filter characteristics can be varied by changing the spacing and finesse of the etalon. The applications of such a tunable spatial angular filter include image processing, feature extraction, pattern recognition, and pseudocolor encoding of spatial frequency.
