Cosmicray scattering in simulated interplanetary magnetic field fluctuations
Abstract
The diffusion of cosmic rays in simulated interplanetary magneticfield fluctuations is studied, using the Monte Carlo pitchangle scattering technique of Jones, Kaiser, and Birmingham. Calculations are based on the slab model with transverse (x,y) field fluctuations, varying only along the average magnetic field direction. The derived pitchangle scattering coefficient is used to calculate the spatial diffusion coefficient applicable near earth.
